What is Techpit

Techpit is a marketplace for programming tutorials. Built around the promise of "learning to program while building a service," it sells more than 100 tutorials written by working engineers. Because you finish with a working product, it catches learners at the stage after syntax, when the question becomes "what should I build?"

The authors are working engineers at large companies, startups and in freelance practice, and they list their own material. The technologies vary by tutorial — Ruby, PHP, Python, Next.js and others.

How to use it

1. Create an account

   Registration is free; browse the catalog and categories.

2. Choose by what you want to build

   You can select from the finished product backwards — "build a matching app in Rails," for instance — which is this service's real advantage.

3. Buy the tutorial, or subscribe to Unlimited

   Either purchase a single tutorial outright or take Techpit Unlimited, which opens the covered catalog.

4. Build in your own environment as you read

   There is no in-browser runtime; you write the code in your own development environment. A local setup is assumed.

5. Customize what you built

   Adding features afterwards turns the tutorial into the foundation of a portfolio piece.

How it differs from other learning services

Techpit's position is "what comes after syntax." Where browser-contained services handle the fundamentals, Techpit handles building one service in your own development environment. The flip side is that terminal skills and environment setup are prerequisites.
