What is キャラぷ (Kyarapu)?
キャラぷ (Kyarapu) is an app where you chat with AI characters and advance a story as its protagonist. It is operated by Wrtn Technologies Japan, Inc. (Minato, Tokyo), the Japanese subsidiary of Wrtn Technologies, Inc., which provides the conversational AI service "Wrtn" in South Korea. Kyarapu was released in June 2025.
It offers a wide range of user-made AI characters across genres such as romance, yume shōsetsu (self-insert fiction), fantasy, BL, idols, mystery and sports. Besides one-on-one conversations with a character, you can also enjoy story-style conversations featuring multiple characters. Presentation elements such as character expressions, scene images and status displays let you play it like a game. Anyone can create characters, and you can either publish them for other users or keep them private for yourself. It is available as iOS / Android apps and on the web (kyarapu.com).
The App Store age rating is 16+. The Terms of Service state that minors need the consent of a parent or guardian (legal representative) to register, and that minors may not view or use adult content within the service.
How to use
- Install the app and sign up Get the app from the App Store or Google Play, or open the web version (kyarapu.com), and sign up. According to the App Store description, new members receive 320 Gold, equivalent to up to 100 chats.
- Find characters Pick a character to talk to from the rankings on the home screen, genres such as "for men", "for women", "romance" and "fantasy", or hashtags.
- Advance the story through conversation Start a conversation with "チャットしに行く" (Go chat). Type lines and actions in response to the character, and the story branches according to what you say and the choices you make.
- Choose a chat format and mode There is "Story" for reading a story in depth, "Visual Novel" with visual presentation, and "Talk" for quick, short one-on-one exchanges. Higher-tier modes such as "Ultra Chat", which gives smarter replies, use Gold.
- Create your own characters Set appearance, personality, speech style and more to create an original character. You can choose to publish it or keep it private.

- Story — In addition to one-on-one conversations with a character, you can have story-style conversations featuring multiple characters
- Visual Novel — Enjoy stories whose endings change with your choices, with character expressions, scene images, status displays and other presentation
- Talk — A one-on-one chat mode added on July 1, 2026, focused on short messages and a quick tempo. It feels like the character is talking to you
- Chat modes — Choosing "Ultra Chat" gives smarter, more natural replies that take into account the conversation's context, roles and situation (per the App Store description). The amount of Gold consumed varies by chat type
02Creating and interacting
- Character creation — Create original AI characters by setting their appearance, personality, speech style and more. You are free to publish them or keep them private
- Image creation — The app includes a feature for creating images
- Community — Send likes, follows and comments to creators and characters you like, or support them by gifting Gold
- Events for creators — The operator holds character contests with prizes (the July 2026 contest celebrating Talk had a total of ¥10 million in prizes and support funds)
Pricing
Basic play is free. For users who want more chats or higher-tier modes, there is a time-limited "Talk Pass" and an in-service currency called "Gold". Prices are based on the in-app purchase listing on the App Store (Japan) as of October 10, 2026.

The privacy policy also describes a feature (rewarded ads) that lets you temporarily lift the usage limit on Basic Chat by watching a video ad.

01Age and purchases
- Age rating — The App Store age rating is 16+. Minors need parental consent to register and may not use adult content
- Gold is not refunded — Refunds for personal reasons after purchase are not available. Check your balance and consumption before buying so you do not overspend
02Conversation data and what you create
- Sharing with external AI providers and overseas — The privacy policy states that personal data may be provided to companies such as Anthropic and OpenAI in the US and providers in South Korea
- Rights to generated content — Under the Terms of Service, copyright in output data transfers to the user, but the user grants the operator permission to use it to improve the service. Anything you publish is deemed to grant the operator a broad license to use it
- Private conversations — According to the App Store description, conversations with characters set to private cannot be seen by anyone else
03The nature of AI
- Characters' words are fiction — Conversations are generated by AI and may include content that is not factual
- Prohibited input — The Terms of Service prohibit entering hate speech, defamation, sexual expressions and the like, as well as including improperly obtained personal information
