What is Lovable
Lovable is an AI development platform ("vibe coding") that generates entire web apps and sites just from you describing your idea in text. Under the banner "Build something Lovable," you instruct it via chat and it generates an app with everything from frontend to backend, which you can publish and connect to a custom domain right away. Even without programming knowledge, you can turn what you want to build into reality just by putting it into words.
Lovable's core is "instruct in words, build a full-stack app, and publish it." Beyond the UI, it includes Lovable Cloud (a built-in backend — database, storage, auth, realtime, edge functions — on a Supabase foundation), Lovable AI (add AI features to your app with no API key of your own), and a Build mode that autonomously edits and fixes across multiple files. Lovable does not charge per seat. The official FAQ states plainly that workspaces support unlimited members on all plans, and that plans are priced by the credits they include, not by seats. Adding people does not change your subscription cost — what changes is how fast the shared credits are used.
To fund a team or a class, upgrade one workspace to a plan with enough monthly credits and invite the whole group: everyone builds from the shared pool on one subscription and one invoice. To stop any one person draining it, workspace owners and admins can set a default monthly credit limit per member.
Credits have an expiry date
The most commonly missed detail in Lovable's pricing is that rollover is not indefinite. Plenty of write-ups say "credits roll over" and stop there; the official FAQ spells out when they expire.

What happens when you cancel. Per the official FAQ, you can keep using your remaining credits until the end of the current billing period. After that the plan switches to Free and only the free plan's grants apply. If the workspace still holds unused paid credits, re-subscribing to any plan before they expire reactivates them.
Credits are, however, non-refundable — the FAQ states they cannot be refunded or redeemed for cash or any other value.
Who owns the app, and what running it costs
The official FAQ is unambiguous on ownership: you own your code — the apps, websites, and other projects you build with Lovable, and the customer data stored in your database. GitHub integration lets you keep that code in your own repo.
On hosting, the official answer is that for smaller or newly built apps it effectively costs nothing: publishing, viewing, and keeping the app running is minimal and fully covered by the grant included with your subscription. But apps that reach significant visitor traffic or size start incurring cost on top of that grant, drawn from your credits. If you plan to grow the app rather than ship and forget it, budget for that.
Students who verify their status with a valid student email get up to 50% off Lovable Pro. There is also "Lovable for campus" with billing and administrative controls for universities, and "Lovable for kids" for schools in partnership with imagi.
On security, SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, and ISO 27001 certification and compliance are published.

Lovable publishes its usage figures openly. It is not only individual prototyping — the company states that more than 40,000 businesses use it for work.

Curtis Anderson, CEO of the healthcare staffing service Nursa, is quoted on the official site to the effect that the constraint is no longer resourcing but imagination. The pattern the company puts forward is teams building the internal software they need rather than subscribing to off-the-shelf SaaS.
On the other hand, the pricing and credit model draws repeated criticism. Community discussions (Reddit's r/lovable among them) regularly return to how fast credits burn and how hard the pricing is to read. As laid out above, credits carry expiry dates, plans are priced by credits rather than seats, and a published app that grows consumes additional credits. The free plan's 5 build credits a day also runs out quickly once you start refining. Go in expecting "what will this cost per month?" to be the harder question, not "can it do this?"
How it differs from other AI app builders
Lovable's strength is that from instructions in words alone, you can build and publish a full-stack app that includes the backend. Compared with UI-generation-focused tools or traditional development, its edge is the ease of standing up something with database and auth built in.
