What is VideoFX?

Google's former text-to-video AI tool. It has now been merged into the successor AI filmmaking tool “Google Flow,” and the old URL redirects to Flow. Flow is built around the video model Veo (currently Veo 3.1, with native audio generation) and lets you build scenes and control the camera.

VideoFX was a Google AI tool for generating video from text, but it has now been merged into Google Flow. The old URL (labs.google/fx/tools/video-fx) automatically redirects to Flow, and VideoFX is no longer offered as a standalone tool. Its capabilities have been carried over to Flow, a more full-featured AI filmmaking tool.

Prompt with text or an image

Describe the video you want, or provide a source image.
Generate and edit

Generate the video and build scenes with Scenebuilder and camera controls.
Export

Export the finished video.

Flow is not sold standalone; it is included in Google AI subscriptions. Beyond the free tier, it is available on Google AI Pro (¥2,900/mo) and Ultra (¥36,400/mo), with generation metered by credits. Credit amounts can change, so check the official site for the latest (as of August 2026).

What VideoFX was (at the time)

VideoFX, released in Google Labs in May 2024, was an experimental text-to-video tool powered by the Veo video model. It could generate short clips from prompts, but at Google I/O in May 2025 its successor Flow was announced, and its capabilities were carried into Flow and merged.

The core model is covered on the Veo page. Image generation's ImageFX was likewise merged into Flow. Among non-Google video AIs, Runway ML and Kling are worth comparing.
