What is Notion
Notion is an "all-in-one AI workspace" that combines docs, wikis, projects, and databases with deeply integrated AI. Under the banner "Where teams and agents think together," it offers everything from writing and AI chat across your workspace to meeting transcription and autonomous agents. It is operated by Notion Labs, Inc. (USA).
At its core, Notion has AI answer and work across your documents, databases, and even connected external apps. Beyond generating, summarizing, and translating text, autofilling databases, and creating meeting notes, you can also use "agents" that run autonomously on schedules and triggers.
Notion AI is provided as part of the paid plans. Free and Plus get a trial version (limited), while Business and Enterprise include Notion Agent, AI Meeting Notes, and Enterprise Search. Since Notion 3.8 on October 13, 2026, you can connect a paid ChatGPT subscription (Plus, Pro, or Go) and have it cover your Notion Agent usage (no markup; available on Business and Enterprise). On October 19, Notion also announced a new system that measures AI usage in "Standard / Select credits" (existing workspaces move over on November 2).

01Notion AI (creation & Q&A)
Supports text generation, summarizing, and translation, AI Blocks, and Q&A (chat) across your workspace. It also includes Autofill, which auto-populates database properties with AI, Research Mode for detailed reports, and a model picker to switch models. The "Auto" setting, which picks the model for you, was upgraded on October 19, 2026; Notion says it now delivers results similar to Opus 5.5 and others at about 90% lower average cost on common tasks.
02AI meeting notes & enterprise search
AI Meeting Notes transcribes meetings in real time and auto-generates summaries and action items (19 languages including Japanese; SOC 2 Type 2). Enterprise Search (Beta) answers across your workspace plus connected apps like Slack, Google Drive, and GitHub.
03Agents + the foundation
Notion Agent automates multi-step tasks using workspace context, and Custom Agents run autonomously on schedules/triggers. The foundation remains the classic docs, wikis, projects, databases, and calendar.
Using Notion AI with your ChatGPT subscription
With Notion 3.8 on October 13, 2026, you can connect a paid ChatGPT subscription to Notion Agent and have it cover your AI usage inside Notion. Notion says you "shouldn't have to pay twice" and does not add a markup (Notion What's New, Help Center).

The October 13 release notes say "Plus or Pro," while the October 19 announcement and the Help Center say "Plus, Pro, or Go." This page follows the Help Center.
On data handling, the Help Center explains that requests processed with your ChatGPT plan are still covered by Notion's agreements with its AI subprocessors (including the commitment not to train on customer data), and conversations are not saved to or shown in your ChatGPT chat history or memory. Notion AI's standard retention applies: zero data retention on Enterprise, and 30 days otherwise. Admins can see connect and disconnect events in the audit log, but not usage.

AI credits (new system from October 19, 2026)
On Business and Enterprise, each member gets two kinds of credits every month (Help Center). New workspaces moved to this system on October 19; existing workspaces move on November 2.

Standard and Select are counted separately, reset every month, and do not roll over. When you run out, the features that use them pause until the next reset unless an admin allows Notion credits. The pricing page lists Custom Agents at "US$10 per 1,000 credits." If you connect a ChatGPT subscription and pick a GPT model, your ChatGPT plan is used instead of these credits. How it differs from other workspaces
Notion stands out as an AI workspace that unifies Q&A, meeting notes, autonomous agents, and cross-app search on top of a foundation of docs and databases. Its scope differs from tools centered on app generation or single-purpose document tools.

FAQ
Q. How much does Notion AI cost? It is not sold separately; it is included in the plans. Full use of Notion Agent and the like requires Business (¥3,800 per member per month on monthly billing, or ¥3,150 per month on annual billing) or higher. Free and Plus get a trial version. Business and Enterprise include 1,500 Standard and 500 Select credits per member per month, and admins can buy Notion credits to cover anything beyond that.
Q. Can I use my ChatGPT subscription for Notion AI? Yes. If your Notion workspace is on Business or Enterprise and you have ChatGPT Plus, Pro, or Go, each member can connect their own ChatGPT account. There is no markup.
Q. If I connect ChatGPT, do I still need a paid Notion plan? Yes. Only Business and Enterprise workspaces are eligible, and your ChatGPT plan is used only when you pick a GPT model in your personal Notion Agent. Auto, non-GPT models, Custom Agents, AI Meeting Notes, and so on use Notion credits.
Q. Do conversations show up in my ChatGPT history? No. According to the help center, the ChatGPT connection is used only for billing and usage attribution, and Notion AI's data handling (no training on customer data, retention periods) still applies.
Q. Can I use AI on the free plan? Yes, as a trial: you can try things like text generation and database autofill with limits.
